Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator with strong expertise in IBM Db2 to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our Db2 database systems to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.

Required Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or related field

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator
• Extensive experience with IBM Db2 database management systems
• Proven track record of managing enterprise-level database environments

Key Responsibilities

Database Management & Administration:

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Db2 database systems across multiple environments (development, testing, and production)
• Monitor database performance, implement tuning strategies, and optimize queries for maximum efficiency
• Manage database storage, capacity planning, and resource allocation
• Perform regular database backups, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning

Security & Compliance:

• Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access controls and authentication
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and company security policies
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
• Manage database encryption and data masking where required

Performance Optimization:

• Analyze and resolve database performance issues and bottlenecks
• Design and implement indexing strategies for optimal query performance
• Monitor system resources and recommend hardware/software upgrades as needed
• Develop and maintain database performance baselines and metrics

Maintenance & Support:

• Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical database issues
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related problems in a timely manner
• Apply patches, updates, and maintenance releases
• Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation

Collaboration & Development:

• Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT staff
• Participate in database design reviews and provide technical guidance
• Develop and enforce database standards, procedures, and best practices
• Assist with database-related aspects of application development and deployment

Required Technical Skills

• Expert-level knowledge of IBM Db2 (LUW, z/OS, or both)
• Strong SQL programming and query optimization skills
• Experience with database backup and recovery tools (Db2 BACKUP, RESTORE, HADR)
• Proficiency in database monitoring and performance tuning tools
• Knowledge of database security principles and implementation
• Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery concepts
• Experience with database replication and clustering technologies

Preferred Qualifications

• IBM Db2 Database Administrator certification
• Experience with other database platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
• Knowledge of cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, IBM Cloud)
• Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Shell, PowerShell)
• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes
• Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows server environments
